Yaroslavl is a very historical, traditional and typical Russian city, located on the famous Volga river just 280 km to the North-East from Moscow. The direct train route from Moscow is available.

The pearl of the Golden Ring - Yaroslavl attracts thousands of tourists by its picturesque landscapes and amazing landmarks.

Yaroslavl is an ancient city as well as modern one. The historical center of the city located between the rivers Volga and Kotorosl belongs to UNESCO`s world heritage.

Yaroslavl was founded in 1010 by prince Yaroslav the Wise who conquered this place by killing the sacred bear (the totem of the tribes) with a pole-axe.

Yaroslavl developed rapidly because of its favorable location along the Volga trade route. Today it is a large industrial, scientific and cultural centre with the population over 650,000 people, which has an advantageous geographical location and lies some 280 km away from Moscow and some 750 km away from Saint-Petersburg. Automobile tires, diesel engines, synthetic rubber, lacquer paints, industrial machinery and equipment are produced in Yaroslavl.

The Russia`s first professional drama theatre, the first provincial magazine, the first lorry, obtaining the first synthetic rubber in the world - this is Yaroslavl!

Why Yaroslavl?

An ancient Russian city Yaroslavl which was founded in 11th century by Prince Yaroslav the Wise played an important role in different periods of Russian history. In the Time of Troubles (1598-1613) and in the Patriotic War of 1812 the city was a center of people’s militia.

Yaroslavl was a major trading center and the 2nd largest city in Russia for several centuries as well.

Yaroslavl is one of the most beautiful cities of Russia and is a part of several national tourist routes at once including the world famous "Golden Ring". Its historic center (Earthen city) is one of 15 architectural landmarks of Russia which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Yaroslavl is one of the cultural centers of Russia. The first Russian theater nowadays the winner of the National Theatre Award "Golden Mask" was founded here.

Modern Yaroslavl is a major industrial and scientific center with several universities and developed infrastructure. Yaroslavl is the birthplace of the first female astronaut V.V. Tereshkova whose 80th anniversary the world will celebrate in 2017.

Proximity and direct connection allows easy driving from Moscow and ST Petersburg to Yaroslavl.
